What was the hardest thing for me to do since I ve become more serious about my faith? Well, that is easy! Prayer. It is not that it is hard to pray, but sometimes I m not sure how or what to pray for? Jesus taught us how to pray when he taught the apostles the Our Father. We say that prayer every Sunday at mass. I try to make it a habit to say the prayer every day. I am in the middle of reading Matthew Kelly's Rediscovering Catholicism, and he talks about the "Classroom of Silence" which is 10 minutes alone with God every day. I like the idea of the "Classroom of Silence" You can do that anywhere you want, at home, in the park, going for walk outside, driving to work in your car, etc etc.
When I go for a walk every day I try to use that as my classroom of silence with God. I listen to an uplifting talk for part of my walk and then for the 2nd part of the walk I usually think about what I listened too, and pray to God about any problem or issues I am having. The nice thing about talking to God, is that you do not have to call for an appointment he is always there to listen to us. Sometimes I take awhile to get started on something or I get discouraged really easy when I do start, and things don't work out the way I want them too.
A good priest once told me during confession to open up my bible every day and pray to one member of the Trinity. If you want to pray to God, focus on the Psalms in the Old Testament, if you want to pray to Jesus focus on the Gospels, and if you want to pray to Holy Spirit read the Acts of the Apostles. All of these will open up your understanding of the Trinity and help your prayer life.

I like the idea of a "classroom of silence." I have prayers that I say every day - Rosary, Chaplet of Divine Mercy and others. Another lovely one that I don't get to do too often is to slip inside a Catholic Church - one with daily or perpetual adoration is great but if not, just being in front of the Blessed Sacrament in the Tabernacle is an oasis of peace. You don't have to pray - just be like Mary - resting in the presence of Our Lord.
I also like the "Classroom of Silence" concept. God already knows our wants and needs, he just likes when we acknowledge not only that we have those, but that He alone is able to satisfy them. Isaiah 55:6 says to seek the Lord where he may be found. This means we don't have to be in church to spend time with him (although that is awesome too), we can be on line at the store, on a walk, at a restaurant, and even in the car (my favorite place to pray). Even two minutes five times a day will give you 10 minutes to thank God for all His blessings and ask for his continued mercy, grace, and provisions, remembering the words of Philippians 4:4-7. Great blog today Mike keep up the good work :)
Your priest's advice about using Scripture to pray to the three persons of the Trinity is really inspiring!
