Everyone has a patron saint. While it is usually popular to pick the saint you were named after, I have chosen St Joseph the spouse of Mary and Jesus earthly father as my patron saint. Every day I say a prayer to St Joseph for protection over me and my wife and our future children. Here is one prayer I especially like to St Joseph.
To St. Joseph for Protection
"Gracious St. Joseph, protect me and my family from all evil as you did the Holy Family. Kindly keep us ever united in the love of Christ, ever fervent in the imitation of the virtue of our Blessed Lady, your sinless spouse, and always faithful in devotion to you. Amen"

Yo, Mike!
Nice blog about patron saints. For me, I like to think of St. Michael the Archangel as a patron. Another saint I particularly like is St. Gregory of Tours (d. AD 594), author of THE HISTORY OF THE FRANKS.
Sincerely, Sean
I remember as a kid anytime something was lost or misplaced we needed to pray to St Anthony to help us find it. My mother had a devotion to St. Lucy, since Lucia is her middle name and they used to make some Italian wheat and chocolate concoction on her feast day. In my family it was also very common to name children after saints (my siblings and I are all named after saints). All my kids' middle names are saint names: Margaret, Clare, Anthony, Charles. Even my daughter in heaven's middle name, Marygrace Therese, reflects an appreciation I have for St. Therese of the Little Flower. While it is not popular for us Pentecostals to "pray to" saints I do believe we must acknowledge them for their exemplary lives here on earth, and try to emulate their love of God and their willingness to give their very lives to follow Christ. There are many Biblical references to saints, both on earth and in heaven. I do believe that both exist...
I remember as a child being very fascinated by the Miraculous medal my mother had in her jewelry box. We weren't Catholic and Mom being Japanese was a Buddhist - although she didn't practice it. Guess I was very curious about the Blessed Mother and loved to watch the movie "Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima." So when beginning RCIA, that was the first thing I learned about was the story behind the Miraculous Medal and St Catherine Laboure. Since then, I've developed a devotion to St Catherine and Sts Clare, Therese of Lisieux, St Michael the Archangel and others. It's wonderful that the Catholic Church has so many wonderful saints. Saint Joseph is pretty cool too. God bless!
