Psalm 23

Today my wife and I attended the funeral of her Great Aunt and during the funeral mass psalm 23 was read.

A psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; there is nothing I lack.

In green pastures you let me graze; to safe waters you lead me;
you restore my strength. You guide me along the right path for the sake of your name.

Even when I walk through a dark valley, I fear no harm for you are at my side; your rod and staff give me courage.

You set a table before me as my enemies watch; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Only goodness and love will pursue me all the days of my life; I will dwell in the house of the LORD for years to come.

What a wonderful thing to know how much God loves us all. He is always with us and we can pray to him any time we want. Until tomorrow God Bless.

I attended a women's retreat several years ago and my pastor's wife chose Psalm 23 as the theme of the weekend. It was fascinating to learn about the role of the shepherd in the time of David, and how that translated to Jesus as the Good Shepherd of us all. The parallels of the caring attitude of the working shepherd and the Good Shepherd in protecting his sheep, finding them when they are lost, making sure they were well fed and brought to a place of peace are awesome. The shepherd would lay down his life for his sheep, and in John 10 Jesus tells us he has done the same. He just asks us to follow him.
